About Jennifer

Jennifer Taber VanDerwerken is a freelance writer.

Jennifer began her career in book publishing, first in New York City at St. Martin’s Press, and then in Boston at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. In 2010, she made the switch to freelance writing for a diverse range of media outlets. Jennifer is a regular contributor to the Times Union, and the Managing Editor of Edible Capital District. She was the lead writer for the award-winning Beekman 1802 Almanac, where she contributed features, artisan profiles, travel guides, food writing, and personal essays. She has written extensively about motherhood, both locally and nationally, for Scary Mommy, Mother.ly, Grown and Flown, and Mini City Magazine . Jennifer has been featured on Design Mom and Cup of Jo.

Jennifer maintains a roster of longtime business clients who turn to her to give a strong marketing voice to their brand, and communicate with their clientele through regular newsletters, blog posts, social media content, and emails.

She is happiest when with her husband and two sons, binge-watching British television, hunting for vintage books and treasures, or fastidiously organizing any mess. She is a rampant bibliophile and podcast-addict who credits the power of stories to touch and change us. She hates mashed potatoes, and knows she is largely alone in this.

Jennifer lives in upstate New York.
